New Jersey Governor Pleads with COVID-Fatigued Residents to Choose Inconvenience Over Death

New Jersey is facing a new rise of over 3,000 positive coronavirus cases. As residents grow weary of state restrictions, Governor Phil Murphy is making a stern point saying, “You know what’s really uncomfortable and annoying? When you die.”

What We Know:

  • According to NBC, out of all the coronavirus tests administered Sunday in New Jersey, 12.02% were positive. By Wednesday, there were 1,827 COVID-19 hospitalizations with 360 people in intensive care and 117 people being put on ventilators. The hospital rate is the highest it has ever been since early June.
  • Many across the country are preparing for the worst. As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, states are acting quickly to enforce restrictions and discourage “super-spreader” gatherings for the holidays. There has yet to be any nationwide response by the Trump administration.
  • The garden state will be tightening restrictions as Governor Murphy empowers communities to take action. New Jersey counties may now order an 8:00 p.m. curfew on nonessential businesses and have limited indoor services of bars and restaurants. Although there is currently no plan to place schools back into remote learning, the governor has banned all interstate indoor sports under the college level.

In a final plea for compliancy, Governer Murphy tells the people of New Jersey, “The one screaming ask is everybody please take this seriously and remember it’s not forever. But we are in the throes of it right now. We are still at war and in fact, we’re far more at war than we were a month or two ago. And we have got to ask you folks, please limit Thanksgiving. Please limit any private setting gatherings. Please wear your face coverings even if you’re sick and tired of it, who can blame you, so am I, you got to wear them.”
