What We Know:

  • According to TMZ, Belasco was on the verge of starting a new acting role in Virginia right before his death. His father, Bert Sr., discovered his son’s body in a hotel room in Richmond over the weekend. Belasco’s girlfriend was unable to get in touch with him, thus prompted the search. She asked the hotel staff to check on him.
  • It has been reported that when staff found him, there was blood on the bedsheets. As of late, the family anxiously awaits the results of an autopsy to reveal his actual cause of death. His family believes the late actor may have suffered a fatal aneurysm.
  • Belasco was best known for his portrayal of Charles Whitmore on the BET series. He’s also had several other appearances, including the Fox series Pitch, as well as The Soul Man, NCIS: New Orleans, and I’m Dying Up Here.

  • As a Southern Illinois University Carbondale alum, he earned his theater degree in 2005. During his college career, he starred in Home, as a senior, a play directed by Segun Ojewuyi, assistant professor in the theater. The main plot of the play revolved around a man’s journey to “find himself.” He ended up also playing leads in other SICU plays, such as The Greenbird and Parade.
  • Aside from school, Belasco was with Chicago’s famed Second City for a time, participated in the TVI Actors Studio Summer Institute in Los Angeles, and a master class with acting instructor David Aulicino.
