Over the past 7 weeks, Donald Trump, the First Lady and multiple White House aids have caught the Covid-19 virus. Now, housing secretary, Ben Carson, has also contracted the virus after attending a White House election watch party.
What We Know:
- Ben Carson is one of the latest of the Trump staff that has contracted Covid-19 from an election night watch party. He tested positive on November 9th. Carson was a neurosurgeon before he became the secretary of housing and urban planning. He is a member of Donald Trump’s coronavirus task force and has defended Trump’s handling of the virus.
- Ben Carson is a high risk Covid-19 patient because he is 69 and previously battled cancer, but he is reportedly stable and feeling better.
- At least two other people who attended the party have tested positive as well.
- Everyone in attendance the evening of the party had to be tested prior, but many did not wear face masks or even social distance, AP news reports. The White House is refusing to disclose how many people attended the party and how many were diagnosed with the virus.
- The event was hosted among a rise in Covid-19 cases in America and as America hits the grim milestone of 10 million cases and over 200,000 deaths. The White House was home to a super spreader event in October, when Trump was still recovering from the virus himself.
- The handling of coronavirus by Donald Trump and his administration has been more focused on the economy and reopening the country. Wearing masks and avoiding small gatherings have been disregarded, and the president has said that he believes the virus has been played up to hurt his re-election.
The lack of proper handling of the virus in the White House is likely to lead to more Trump associated cases as the days go by.
