Jennifer McLeggan is a registered nurse and single mother who lives in a suburban New York town in Valley Stream, Long Island.
What We Know:
- McLeggan moved into her colonial-style house in 2017 and has been racially profiled and harassed by her three next-door neighbors since that time. According to NBC News, her neighbors have thrown feces and dead squirrels onto her lawn, and one of her them told her she could be “erased.” She contacted the Nassau County police, but nothing was done in regards to her complaint.
- On her front door, McLeggan created and taped a sheet of long paper describing all of the tactics her neighbors used to intimidate and bully her. One of the things she wrote was, “I live in FEAR of my life at home.”
- McLeggan’s story went viral after her sister and others shared it on social media. People began to protest and stand guard outside of her home to show their support and put an end to the harassment.
- McLeggan mentioned having surveillance footage of many of the incidents, and she took them to court where she won a $5,000 judgment.
- Her story caught the attention of State Assemblywomen Michaëlle Solages, who represents parts of the county. She posted a picture in front of the home of McLeggan and stated she is “calling for a full investigation.”

- In a statement with NBC New York, County Executive Laura Curran said, “We take these allegations seriously, and Nassau County PD is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.”
McLeggan’s two neighbors, John McEneaney, 57, and his girlfriend, Mindy Caranarick, 53, have been charged with harassment.
