Cider mills have always been a fond childhood memory for Leandra King. But when there were no cider mills within Detroit county borders, Leandra decided it was time to create Detroit Farm and Cider and bring autumn traditions to the Motor City.
What We Know:
- The idea to create Detroit Farm and Cider came to Leandra while she was working with a local nonprofit to help the community. Now, it is the first cider mill in the Detroit area. It is also locally-owned, family-owned, and a female-owned black business.
- Detroit Farm and Cider is based on a four-acre plot of land located on 1600 Lawrence St. in Detroit, MI. They are open Friday-Sunday 12 pm-7 pm, offer discounts to Detroit public schools, and locally made food and beverage items for purchase using EBT.
- Detroit Farm and Cider offers more than your traditional cider mill experience. Aside from pumpkins, cider, hayrides, and doughnuts – they also have goats, a greenhouse, bonfires, beehives, a rock wall tree, a zip line, and a solar-powered farm!
- The orchards of the Detroit farm are made up of 139 cherry, pear, apple, and peach trees.
- According to an interview with WXYZ News, when asked about her goals for Detroit Farm and Cider, “(Leandra) King said making sure Detroit Farm and Cider is affordable and also that it benefits the surrounding community, is one of her top priorities.”
