Atlanta Rapper Lil Yachty Arrested after Driving 150 MPH on Freeway

Rapper Lil Yachty was arrested and charged with reckless driving and speeding after the Georgia State Police say he was driving over 150 mph on an Atlanta highway.

What We Know:

  • The incident occurred on September 21 when a GSP officer reported a white 2020 Ferrari F8 speeding northbound on Interstate 75. According to the GSP incident report, the officer began to follow the car, which was traveling over 150 miles per hour and the driver was reported to be weaving in and out of traffic. Once the officer caught up with the car, he initiated a traffic stop. It was then that Lil Yachty, whose real name is Miles McCollum, was taken into custody.
  • After his arrest, GSP said Lil Yachty’s Ferrari was released to a friend, and Lil Yachty was taken to Atlanta City Jail, where he was released to intake personnel. According to the incident report, the incident was audio and video recorded, but GSP announced they are not releasing the video because the case has not been adjudicated.
  • Lil Yachty has since been released. On Monday, the rapper posted a video on Instagram with a simple caption: “I’m not in jail.” He also addressed the recent speeding in a video on Tik Tok, saying, “Yeah. It happened. … Slow down kids.”

  • Back in June, Lil Yachty totaled his red Ferrari in the same area after spinning out of control. News outlets reported that witnesses told investigators at the time that the roads were wet and the rapper was traveling at a high rate of speed.
  • Lil Yachty is an Atlanta native who first rose to fame in 2016 with his mixtape Lil Boat. The rapper has since been featured on songs like Kyle’s “iSpy” and most recently “Oprah’s Bank Account” featuring Drake and Da Baby.

It is unclear at the moment if Lil Yachty has legal representation in this case.
