Chrissy Teigen reveals information about a racist incident that she experienced with her husband, John Legend.
What We Know:
- Teigen, the model and Lip Sync Battle co-host spoke in a Marie Claire interview on Tuesday and described a horrific experience in Virginia over a decade ago.
- Teigen stated that she and husband John Legend were stalked by two white men. The men, who seemed to be neighborhood watchmen, harassed and followed them all the way to their stop.
- “We were in a nicer neighborhood at night, driving slowly, looking for John’s godmother’s home. These two guys were in a pickup truck slowly tailing us, flashing their lights and trying to speak to us. When we pulled over, they were like, ‘What are you guys looking for?’ and we gave them the address.”
“They literally said, ‘Get your asses out of here!’ and proceeded to follow us all the way into her driveway. They got out of the car and stared at us as we knocked on the door and went inside. It was a terrible, scary experience.”
- She mentions that it was her first experience of seeing what happens to Black men every day, as she teared up. She notes how horrifying it was and could have gone wrong so quickly. She was crying afterward for hours and noticed John wasn’t emotional about it. Seeing that he wasn’t as bothered by it was upsetting because he had experienced it before.
- The “Cravings” cookbook writer mentioned that people are “very confident” and “open about their racism” in the present day due to President Donald Trump’s current presidency.
- She adds how it has become a hurtful and weird presidency for many Americans, and she will fight to get Trump out of the office because she cannot live another four years with this kind of hatred in America.
Both Legend and Teigen have publicly supported the Democratic presidential nominee, Joe Biden, and his vice-presidential choice, Kamala Harris.
