Public Policy Polling gave Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden a one point lead over President Trump in Texas, the Hill reports.
What We Know:
- The polling firm gave the former Vice President an edge over Trump in a typical Republican stronghold. 48 percent of Texas voters said they are favoring Joe Biden in November while 47 percent said they support President Trump. The results come a week after the Democratic National Convention where Biden and running mate Kamala Harris sought to energize their base and attract new voters.
- The same poll showed 7 percent of Texans who voted for Trump in 2016 saying they will be voting for Biden this time around. Only 3 percent of Hillary Clinton supports from the Lone Star State said they are backing Trump in this year’s election.
- Though Public Policy Polling tends to lean left, other polls have showed Biden leading in the state as well. Last month’s Quinnipiac poll showed Biden with a 45 to 44 percent lead over the president. However, a poll from RealClearPolitics showed Trump with a 3.5 percent lead in the state.
- Biden acknowledged the poll Tuesday but used it as a means to get citizens registered to vote, urging them to not get complacent.
Ignore the polls. There's simply too much on the line to take anything for granted.

The newly released poll comes as the Republican National Convention is in full swing. Thus far, the president has followed through on his plans to appear on each of the event’s four nights.
