Kobe Bryant To Have Street Named After Him Near Staples Center

Figueroa St. in Los Angeles will be named after Kobe Bryant following his tragic passing earlier this year. The Los Angeles city council announced Monday (Aug. 24) that the street will be named Kobe Bryant Blvd.

What We Know:

  • Los Angeles City Council president, Herb J. Wesson, announced on Twitter Monday that Figueroa St. will soon be Kobe Bryant Blvd, between Olympic Blvd & MLK Blvd. His post went on to remember the late NBA star writing, “Kobe’s legacy is bigger than basketball. #KobeBryantBlvd will be a reminder to everyone, young and old who drive down it, there is no obstacle too big and that with the #Mambamentality, anything is possible.”
  • The announcement comes about 7 months after the tragic helicopter accident in Calabasas, California. Both Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna Bryant, died on impact along with several other passengers.
  • Many Los Angeles natives and fans of Kobe continue to grieve in response to the post made by the President of the Los Angeles City Council. Twitter user @Danielmcd475P wrote, “That is a great tribute to a young man taken from us too soon. He was doing so much for the community and young people. I am sorry to say that he can not be replaced. I hope I am wrong. Amen RIP Kobe!” User @saleh_kibria commented, “Kobe is in our [heart]. On behalf of BUFLA and Bangladeshi community, we appreciated your support #herb. Thank you for honoring #mamba.”
  • Kobe Bryant Blvd will border the Staples Center and intersect Chick Hearn Ct named after an American sportscaster widely known as the play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association.

The announcement of Kobe Bryant Blvd serves to mend the hearts of Los Angeles natives, worldwide fans, and close friends and family who witnessed his legacy.
