Lincoln Project Creates New Women’s Coalition Opposing Trump

The anti-Trump organization has formed a new coalition of Republican women to try and take down the president in this year’s election, the Hill reports.

What We Know:

  • 19 Republican women have grouped up to create the Lincoln Project’s Women’s Coalition in an attempt to persuade women to vote for Democratic nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden in November.
  • Jennifer Horn, co-founder of the Lincoln Project and a member of the coalition, stressed the importance of women’s votes in this year’s election. “Women will decide the outcome of this election. The coalition is dedicated to uniting all women who recognize the threat this President poses to the future of our Republic and turning them out to vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris,” she said in a statement. “The future of our families, our communities and our country lie in our hands.”
  • Horn, Republican strategist Susan Del Percio, and former Hawaii State House Minority Leader Beth Fukumoto will host a town hall Wednesday that is scheduled to be live streamed on social media. Del Percio noted that women are fearful for their families during these times and added that it is time to bring “humanity, empathy, leadership, dignity, and respect” back to the presidency.
  • The new coalition comes as President Trump has been losing support among suburban women, an important voter block that helped put him in the Oval Office four years ago. Trump has previously had run-ins with the Lincoln Project, calling them “RINO” Republicans, which stands for “Republicans in name only”.
  • One of the Lincoln Project’s founders, George Conway, is the husband of Kellyanne Conway, one of the president’s most trusted advisors. Both he and his wife announced Sunday that they would be stepping down from their respective posts to devote more time to their family.

The Lincoln Project’s Women’s Coalition announced its formation as the Republican National Convention gets into full swing, an important opportunity for President Trump to energize his base and attract new voters.
