Singer-songwriters Brandy and Monica will be battling it out in the newest Verzuz on Monday, August 31st.
What We Know:
- Co-created by producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, Verzuz, is a live, virtual DJ battle streamed on Instagram and newly available on Apple TV. The real-time battle features two artists of similar genres pitted against each other in a friendly competition to see who has the best discography.
- The latest battle will feature singer-songwriter Brandy who has hits like “I Wanna Be Down” and “Sitting Up In My Room”. Brandy started her career in the ’90s and put out her most recent album B7 just this year. Her competition, Monica, has several hit singles including “Before You Walk Out My Life” and “Angel Of Mine”. Monica’s career began in the ’90s as well and she also released an album this year called Celebration.
- The two icons share similar backgrounds entering the music and would both be formally classified as R&B artists. Brandy and Monica won a Grammy together for their duo vocals on “The Boy Is Mine” in 1999.
- The Verzuz was announced yesterday (Aug. 23) by both Timbaland and Swizz Beatz via Instagram. Timbaland captioned his post saying “save the date” and “this is history” with many users celebrating in agreement.

Brandy and Monica have been pitted against each other and compared for years so it is no surprise that the two will be battling it out on Verzuz next Monday.
