This week numerous reports surfaced that Sony’s TriStar Pictures would be releasing the first ever fully authorized Whitney Houston biopic, which would be scheduled for release in 2022.
What We Know:
- The biopic is slated to be titled after one of Houston’s most popular songs, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, which was released in 1987.
- This wouldn’t be the first time Whitney Houston’s life would be portrayed on the big screen as other movies such as, Whitney: Can I Be Me, was released in 2017, and Whitney which was released in 2015.
- American movie executive Clive Davis and Hollywood screenwriter Anthony McCarten have both been tasked with developing the script for the highly anticipated biopic.
- Davis was asked about the biopic while talking on Variety, an online podcast, and stated,”“I have a mission to make sure that for all time that the full picture of Whitney Houston is captured in a no-holds-barred film that is musically rich and shows her genius and more of her character than we have seen to date.”
- Davis also explained that, “I didn’t pay a penny to him, and he didn’t pay a penny to me” when discussing the partnership with McCarten. He explained that the pair had great chemistry and hit it off instantly.
This news comes just two weeks after Houston’s birthday as she would’ve been 57 on August 9th. Now with a set release year of 2022 the movie is scheduled to mark the 10 year anniversary of Houston’s death with took place in February of 2012.
