The former president delivered a fiery rebuke of his successor’s job performance Wednesday in the third night of the Democratic National Convention, the Chicago Tribune reports.
What We Know:
- The convention night’s theme was “a more perfect union,” which made the location of Obama’s speech, the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, PA, the perfect setting to grill President Trump. “He’s shown no interest in putting in the work; no interest in finding common ground; no interest in using the awesome power of his office to help anyone but himself and his friends; no interest in treating the presidency as anything but one more reality show that he can use to get the attention he craves,” Obama said.
- Obama continued, telling the nation that Trump is incapable of growing into the job of president, adding that his inabilities have created 170,000 American deaths, lost jobs, and a reduction of respect from the rest of the world. Obama added that he hoped Trump would take the job seriously and honor ” the democracy that had been placed in his care”.
- President Trump was quick to fire back, noting that “President Obama did not do a good job, and the reason I am here is because of President Obama and Joe Biden. Because if they did a good job, I wouldn’t be here, and probably if they did a good job, I wouldn’t have even run. I would have been very happy, I enjoyed my previous life very much. But they did such a bad job that I stand before you as president.”
- Perhaps more importantly, Obama stressed the positive relationship he has with Joe Biden, including a statement about how Biden made him a better president.
.@JoeBiden made me a better president. I’m asking you to believe in his and Kamala’s ability to help make us a better country. More importantly, I’m asking you to believe in your own and to help them, in this election and beyond. https://t.co/YYEAFxx4nW

- Wednesday’s convention coverage featured other notable speakers including Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris, who also officially accepted the Democratic nomination for Vice President.
The fourth and final night of the DNC kicks off tonight at 9 p.m. ET as Biden will give his acceptance speech and make his largest case as to why voters should kick Trump out of the White House.
