The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference(MEAC) released plans to move Fall sports effected by COVID-19 such as football and volleyball to the 2021 spring semester if coronavirus conditions permit.
What We Know:
- This announcement comes after the MEAC conference decided to suspend all fall athletic programs in an announcement during mid-July.
- The Conference announced that the 2020 football season would be played in Spring 2021, and each school would play 6 regional games.
- This would be the first time ever that the schools would be split into two separate divisions.
- The Northern Division will consist of Coppin State, Delaware State, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, Norfolk State. This leaves Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T State, North Carolina Central, South Carolina State in the Southern Division.

- The season is expected to start February 27th and last until April 21st. Once the season has concluded a championship game will take place on May 1st. This would be the first time that the MEAC Conference had an official championship game.
- The MEAC volleyball season will span from early January to late February , with a MEAC Tournament taking place during Mid-March.
- This structure will be continued to be used throughout the 2021 season for all other MEAC sports such as men’s and women’s basketball, softball, baseball, and tennis.
While the MEAC conference is hopeful that their plan can be a success, the conference stated that each program in the conference may choose to opt out of competing with no disciplinary actions. This season, which is scheduled to be the last season that North Carolina A&T, Florida A&M, and Bethune Cookman compete in the conference, could shake up to be the most competitive season yet as a grand farewell is looking very likely for the shrinking conference.
