Biden Leads Trump in 5 of 6 Battleground States

Joe Biden leads Donald Trump in five key swing-states the president won in his 2016 victory to take the White House, the Hill reports.

What We Know:

  • A new CNBC and Change Research survey, dubbed “States of Play”, shows the former VP leading President Trump in critical states for the 2020 election.
  • Biden is currently leading 50 to 44 percent in Florida, 53 to 48 percent in Michigan, 48 to 44 percent in Pennsylvania, and 47 to 43 percent in Wisconsin. Biden also leads by a small margin of 45 to 44 percent in Arizona. Donald Trump won each of these states in the 2016 general election against Secretary Hillary Clinton.
  • North Carolina is the only swing state Trump grabbed in 2016 that he’s managing to hold onto now. The survey shows Trump with just a one point lead in the Tar Heel State, leading 48 to 47 percent. “States of Play” also shows only 44 percent of people approving of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • On Wednesday, President Trump boasted about his high approval ratings within the Republican Party, specifically highlighting that he was “leading in most swing states”.

The survey comes on the heels of Kamala Harris’ selection to be Joe Biden’s running mate, a move that may have initiated more excitement behind the Biden campaign. The 2020 Democratic Convention, that will be held primarily virtually, kicks off this coming Monday.
