Ohio Governor Announces COVID-19 Diagnosis

Ohio Governor, Mike DeWine, took to Twitter Thursday (Aug. 6) to announce his Coronavirus test results in which he tested positive initially and later tested negative.

What We Know:

  • On Thursday afternoon, Mike DeWine tweeted “As part of the standard protocol to greet President Trump on the tarmac in Cleveland, I took a COVID test. I tested positive. I have no symptoms at this time. I’m following protocol and will quarantine at home for the next 14 days.” However, later in the day the governor tested negative in the second test along with his staff and his wife.

  • The tweet left many Ohioans both disappointed and fearful as there state has undergone more aggressive measures to combat the virus. These measures include a stay-at-home order, a mask mandate, closing schools, and postponing the state primary.
  • Many senators and President Donald Trump shared their sympathies. President Trump spoke out on the news saying “We want to wish him the best, he’ll be fine”.
  • DeWine is not the first Republican politician to test positive for COVID-19. Earlier this year, Senator of Kentucky Rand Paul tested positive and most recently U.S. Representative from Texas, Louie Gohmert.

Rep. Louie Gohmert notoriously refused to wear a mask and Governor Mike DeWine had an evidently opposite approach to the pandemic given his state’s mandates. Governor Mike DeWine’s scare left many Americans questioning the legitimacy of COVID-19 protection measures.
