Various notable activists of color will be featured in British Vogue’s September issue to honor the extensive catalogs of each individual. Figures such as Angela Davis, Dr. Bernice King, and Jesse Williams will all be recognized in the issue.
What We Know
- The British Vogue issue will feature a total of 20 activists that fight for issues concerning systematic racism, disability discrimination, domestic violence, gender inequality, and the climate crisis. The new issue strives to highlight those who are at the forefront of change.
- The announcement of the theme of the September issue came only weeks after the fatal killing of George Floyd. Propelled by the growing call for change, the issue will be called “Activism Now.”

- Bernice King (daughter of Martin Luther King and American minister), Angela Davis (longtime American political activist), Jesse Williams ( actor and outspoken activist), and Patrisse Cullors (co-founder of Black Lives Matter) are only some of the few activists to be recognized.
- British Vogue’s dedication to inclusion did not stop with those who were on the cover; a diverse array of photographers were also involved in order to best promote the message. Photographers, including Reginald Cunningham, Texas Isaiah, and Chrisean Rose, were all a part of the project.
The issue is set to release Friday, Aug, 7., available in the form of physical copies and digitally featuring in-depth biographies of each activist.
