Nina Kapur, a CBS reporter in New York, was involved in a moped accident on Saturday and later died at Bellevue Hospital.

What We Know:

  • Kapur was riding as a passenger on the moped when it crashed in Brooklyn. According to police, the driver swerved and both the driver and Kapur were thrown from the vehicle. The driver sustained minor injuries in the accident. The police are actively investigating the incident.
  • Kapur was 26-years-old and was a graduate of Syracuse University. She began working at CBS New York after leaving WDVM-TV in Maryland and News12 in Norwalk, Connecticut. John Dias, a CBS New York reporter called Kapur a “true angel on Earth”. He took to his Twitter to share his feelings on the loss of his colleague. Another colleague, Chris waggle, a CBS New York anchor also spoke out about the death of Kapur.

  • The Revel moped Kapur was a passenger on has become popular nationwide. Riders simply download the app and they can unlock a moped for $1. Revel mopeds are available in New York, Austin, Texas, Miami, Oakland, California and Washington D.C. Similar to the electric scooters, anyone 21 or older and who has a valid driver’s license can drive one.
  • Revel released a statement saying, “Revel extends deepest sympathies to Nina Kapur’s family and loved ones for their loss. We are aware of reports that she passed away after an accident involving a Revel electric moped. We are actively investigating this incident, and we are in contact with the N.Y.P.D. to aid their investigations in any way we can.”
  • Dateline says Kapur reached out to Revel on June 14th asking for help. It is said that helmets are required and do come with the mopeds but last week, the company sent out an email explaining how 1,000 users were suspended for not following the rules and not wearing their helmets. According to the police, it has not been determined whether Kapur or the driver were wearing helmets.

We send our deepest love to the family and friends of Nina Kapur.
