Former first lady Michelle Obama has a new podcast coming out later this month on Spotify.
What We Know:
- The show, called “The Michelle Obama Podcast”, will be exclusive to premium and free Spotify subscribers starting on July 29. In a statement from Spotify, the show will have “candid, human, and personal conversations to show us what is possible when we dare to be vulnerable”.
- Obama wants the show to explore a multitude of topics such as racism and the coronavirus pandemic. Its also going to feature guests such as actor Craig Robinson, Conan O’Brien, and former White House Aid Valerie Jarrett.
- Obama said “perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will help listeners open up new and hard conversations with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another.”
I’m thrilled to announce a new project: The #MichelleObamaPodcast with @Spotify! It’s been a tough year and I hope this podcast can help us explore what we’re going through and spark new conversations with our loved ones. I can't wait for you all to listen on July 29! pic.twitter.com/89zecZXnrr

- The podcast is a product of a deal the Obamas signed, to create exclusive podcasts, with Spotify through their production company Higher Ground. The company also signed a multi-year deal with Netflix back in 2018 to produce television and film projects. The first film project America Film won an Academy Award for “best documentary feature” this year.
Earlier this year, Obama released her Netflix Documentary Becoming, which was an addition to her 2018 best selling memoir of the same name. The film highlighted her 30 city book tour.
