Nick Cannon has been fired from ViacomCBS after he made Anti-Semitic comments in a podcast and refuses to apologize for them.
What We Know:
- The Anti-Semitic comments come from a podcast Cannon made last year called, Cannon’s Class. The podcast was filmed last year but was released two weeks ago. In the podcast, Cannon speaks with rapper Professor Griff, who left Public Enemy 1989 after making similar Anti-Semitic comments such as Cannon. Cannon discussed the truth to the number of conspiracy theories such as “the Rothschilds, centralized banking, the 13 families, the bloodlines that control everything even outside of America.” He says the conversation is not hateful because “Semitic people are Black people.”
- Cannon made a statement on Facebook in which he did not apologize. In the post here says, “I do not condone hate speech nor the spread of hateful rhetoric. I encourage more healthy dialogue and welcome any experts, clergy, or spokespersons to any of my platforms to hold me accountable and correct me in any statement that I’ve made that has been projected as negative.” He received backlash on social media for not apologizing for the comments and stating he thinks “apologies are empty.”
- ViacomCBS decided to cut ties with Cannon following his refusal to apologize for the comments. In a statement they say, “While we support ongoing education and dialogue in the fight against bigotry, we are deeply troubled that Nick has failed to acknowledge or apologize for perpetuating anti-Semitism, and we are terminating our relationship with him.” Cannon has been with the company for years; hosting shows on Nickelodeon and MTV like his show Wild ‘N Out and Lip Sync.

- Following the news that he was fired, Cannon made another Facebook post titled “Truth and Reconciliation” demanding ViacomCBS to give him ownership of his show Wild ‘N Out, which he created. Cannon says he apologizes if he’s created more hate speech but that it was time for him to make demands which include the company handing over ownership of the TV show. He says in the post, “But now I am the one making demands. I demand full ownership of my billion dollar ‘Wild ‘N Out’ brand that I created, and they will continue to misuse and destroy without my leadership! I demand that the hate and back door bullying cease and while we are at it, now that the truth is out, I demand the Apology!”

- Social media has turned and accused Cannon of being a “Black supremacist” by British rapper Zuby. Cannon took to Facebook after the comment made and says he has no hate in his heart. He has also gained support from the cast of Wild ‘N Out, as actor DC YoungFly made a post on Instagram regarding Cannon being fired.
ViacomCBS has yet to issue a statement in regards to the demands Cannon has made in gaining ownership of Wild ‘N Out.
