WSMN 1590 in New Hampshire fires conservative radio host Dianna Ploss after she livestreams herself yelling at landscapers for speaking Spanish.
What We Know:
- Ploss livestreamed herself on Facebook confronting a group of workers and asked them if they were undocumented immigrants. In the video, she says, “It’s America. You should be speaking English. Is anybody here illegal? Are these guys illegal?” The video was taken down by Facebook, but it can be found in other places.
- A man who witnessed Ploss harassing the workers asked why she was doing it and she goes back on camera and says, “He’s a Black man and he’s going to protect the brown man from this White woman whose practicing White privilege because she happened to walk by and heard this guy talking to all of these guys doing this work in Spanish.”
- On Sunday, WSMN 1590 says Ploss is “no longer associated or affiliated in anyway with WSMN or Bartis-Russell Broadcasting, LLC. We at WSMN value freedom of speech, freedom of expression and assembly. We will not tolerate discrimination, racism or hatred.” Ploss posted another livestream on Monday evening letting the people know that was not going to back down after being fired.
- Morin’s Landscaping, Inc., the company that employs the workers Ploss harassed issued a statement regarding the incident. Owner Tom Morin says, “I want to express my sincere appreciation for the overwhelming and most meaningful support that you have provided our company regarding the unfortunate incident that took place in our great city last week.”
During the livestream, Ploss addresses having to “hire security” because of the threats she was getting from people across the United States. More than 10,800 people signed a petition demanding that Ploss be removed as a host for WSMN.
