Detective had restraining order against ex who’s now accused of fatally shooting her

The death of Detective Tanisha Pughsley, 27, has shaken Montgomery after her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Deshwan Webster, 24, fatally shot her. Brandon Deshawn Webster is being charged with capital murder and is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

What We Know:

  • Police and fire medics were dispatched about 2:15 a.m. to the 6700 block of Overview Drive on a possible gunshot victim. When officers and medics arrived at the scene they found Detective Tanisha Pughsley unresponsive and pronounced dead.
  • Montgomery Police has issued a statement following the death of their fellow officer that said the following:

  • Court records were released and showed that Det. Tanisha Pughsley had filed for a protection from abuse order against Webster in late May. The recorded incident that cause the protection and ultimate separation was the following:

“Brandon came to my residence and hit me in the side of my head with an open hand two times while I was holding my 5-month-old Godchild, his actions cause me to drop the infant. He sends threatening text messages and once he is blocked, he continues to call my phone on private.”

  • The constant threats that Webster had also allegedly threatened to confine or injure her made Det. Tanisha Pughsley ask the judge to have Webster surrender all firearms. However, court order shows that the Judge never required Webster to surrender any firearms. That, ultimately caused her death.
  • Twitter followers stated that her fellow colleagues and the court did not protect her enough from her abusive ex.

  • According to Family Court Judge Bob Bailey, the restraining order was only effective till Dec. 19, 2020 and the couple was allowed to “briefly” contact each other only for the sole purchase of activities that involved the sale of their jointly owned residence.

There have not been any further updates regarding the death of Det. Tanisha Pughley. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
