The coronavirus pandemic is worsening putting Florida in a negative position. On Tuesday, 56 Florida hospitals reported to have reached full capacity.
What We Know:
- 56 ICUs have maxed out and another 35 are saying their bed availability is at 10 percent or below, according to the Agency for Health Care Administration in that state. The need for testing has increased due to many Floridians refusing to wear face masks.
- The counties that contain these maxed out hospitals are Miami-Dade, Broward, Orange, and Hillsborough.
- Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, said Tuesday that the death rate among coronavirus patients has lowered but Americans shouldn’t take comfort in it. He warned people against “false complacency” in the face of the virus.
- “The death rate is lower, I admit that. Because people in general, who are young or healthier. But that doesn’t mean that you could not get seriously ill,” Fauci said, attributing many of the spikes to what he said were premature reopenings and liftings of stay-at-home orders.
- Hospitals in both Texas and Florida are also filled with critical Covid-19 patients and some local and state officials have made face coverings mandatory.
Last week, the country averaged just under 50,000 new cases daily. This is the highest rate recorded, and twice as high as a month ago.
