21 Savage announces free financial literacy program for youth

Posted on July 2, 2020July 3, 2020 by Sagar Biswas

21 Savage announced a free online financial literacy program for young people who are staying home during the pandemic.

What We Know:

  • The Grammy winning rapper announced his “Bank Account at Home” initiative on Wednesday. His foundation, Learning By Example, will partner with Chime and Everfi to educate youth on earning and managing money. “I feel like it’s important more than ever to give our next generation the tools to succeed in life,” the rapper said in a statement.
  • The program’s website will provide resources for elementary school students through high school students. Kids can learn basic concepts about money and explore financial planning, budgeting, and entrepreneurship. The program will introduce additional resources for scholarships in August.
  • According to Associated Press, he will also partner with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to provide students with free WiFi and tablets.
  • This new program expands upon 21 Savage’s past initiatives. In 2018, he launched the Bank Account program. He partnered with Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson and Get Schooled to provide educational resources for teenagers across the country.
  • 21 Savage has made his passion for money management clear in the past. “For most kids, the focus is on earning money . . . As I have gotten smarter about financial management, I realize how important it is to control your money rather than be controlled by it. I want to help kids with a background similar to mine to get smart about their money,” he said at a 2019 event.

The Atlanta-raised rapper hopes to empower youth to learn about money and give back to his community.
