Rapper Huey Killed in St.Louis Double Shooting

Rapper Huey was killed in a St. Louis double shooting.

What We Know:

  • The rapper most known for the song “Pop, Lock & Drop It” was shot at least once Thursday night around 11 p.m while standing in the front yard of a home in Kinloch, Granda, acccording to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
  • Huey, whose real name is Lawrence Franks Jr., was pronounced dead at 32, after being trsansported to the local hospital.
  • A second victim was taken to the Ferguson Police Department and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police told the paper. It was not clear how he was connected to Huey.
  • The police sergeant said 10 “other people were present in and around the crime scene during the shooting”.
  • Though the authorities did not immediately confirm his identity, the local hip-hop community flooded social media with tributes to one of the city’s most popular rappers.
  • Music executive William “Quayshaun” Carter, who worked with Huey in the 2010s said “He was a good kid. He was raised on the streets and he chose to do something different. He’d just started another business – he was getting into upscale clothing, and it was working out, and he was happy,” he said. “His passing is a tragic loss to the hip-hop world. He was a part of hip-hop history.”
  • A local activist fighting gun violence known as the “St. Louis Superman” tweeted “They Killed my lil cousin”.

  • St. Louis-based producer and songwriter Jaylien Wesley said he “shed a few” at the news.

Huey’s song “Pop ,Lock & Drop it” topped at No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in June 2007. That same month, Huey released his studio debut Notebook Paper, which included guest spots from T-Pain, Yo Gotti, Lloyd, Trey Songz, and Mario, among others.
