New York Neighborhood Celebrates UPS Driver

New York Community Surprises UPS Driver

UPS driver Greg Watkins was on his normal delivery route before he was hit with a special celebration from a neighborhood in Smithtown, New York.

What We Know:

  • A viral Facebook video showed UPS driver Greg Watkins delivering to a neighborhood in Smithtown, New York, where thunderous applause, cheers, flowers, and a “thank you” card awaited him with members of the community.
  • The video was uploaded by Christine Grazia, who has known Watkins since 2009. “He’s just amazing,” Grazia told Black News Alerts. “He always had a smile. He genuinely cares about everyone he delivers to. Everyone has a story about Greg. If he sees a package that’s not wrapped and knows it’s for one of your children, he will hide it for you.”
  • “He doesn’t just drop the packages and leave, he rings your bell, asks about your family,” she continued. “He takes the time to really get to know you. He’s been working so hard during this pandemic. A little joy was what he deserved.”
  • According to Grazia, it was all planned when a local woman posted the message on Facebook because she thought it would be nice to surprise him and everything “took off from there”.
  • The post received over 100 comments, one comment saying this is a perfect example of the positivity that should be shown. Another one saying that the video gave them hope in humanity and they’re “tired of seeing hatred and bigotry,” referring to the racial injustice that has surfaced after the recent deaths of Blacks at the hands of cops.
  • Grazia posted the video on her Facebook timeline to share with her friends and family who couldn’t be there to witness the sweet moment. “I never expected it to take off like it did,” she said.

Watkins has another two years left on his route in Smithtown before it ends.
