Kentucky tattoo shop offers free ‘cover-up’ for ‘hate’ symbols

Kentucky tattoo parlor, Gallery X Art Collective, wants to unite the community amidst the recent incidents and to support the Black Lives Matter movement through ink.

What We Know:

  • Among the protests on the Black Lives Matter movement, a Kentucky parlor, Gallery X Art Collective has offered free appointments for those who want a second chance.
  • Tattoo artists Jeremiah Swift and Ryun King are taking a step forward against police brutality and encouraging everyone to come in for a free cover-up and stand against hate.

“It’s definitely a long-overdue change.”

  • The duo said the following: “A lot of people when they were younger just didn’t know any better and were left with mistakes on their bodies. We just want to make sure everybody has a chance to change.”

  • After posting on their Facebook page, almost 30 people have asked for appointments to remove unwanted “hateful” tattoos.
  • The parlor’s first client was Jennifer Tucker, a 36-year-old mother who had a small confederate flag on her ankle. She had gotten the tattoo when she was 18 and that is not who she is anymore.
  • The mother of two said the following when interviewed by CNN on her change:

“I just needed to get that symbol of hatred off of my body.”

  • The outpouring of support by customers and followers took over on Twitter.

  • The support from the parlor on the Black Lives Matter movement against police brutality comes after a string of businesses have shown their support against systemic racism in the world.
  • The death of George Floyd, who died due to police brutality on May 25th, has sparked outrage all over the world and has brought out waves of peaceful protesters against the government and police establishments.

Gallery X Art Collective has received multiple calls and messages for cover-ups and is working to schedule everyone while following COVID-19 guidelines. Their mission statement has been widely supported by the community and is encouraging others to come in and get a do-over to start the path they were meant to be.
