A grandmother is caught on video shielding her grandson from police as they point their wepons at him for running a stop sign.
What We Know:
- A video circulating on social media shows 21-year-old Texas man, Tye Anders, lying face down on the ground as officers point their weapons at him and yell different comands.
- In the video, you can hear officers tell Anders “We are not going to do anything as long as you listen”. As officers continue to point their weapons at him, they tell him to stand up and walk backwards toward them.
- Viewers can also hear the panicked voice of family members shouting at the police “He’s scared. Do you not see how many black people are getting shot? Do you not see that?”

- Toward the end of the video, Anders’ 90-year-old grandmother can bee seen walking up to him and then standing over him as he lays on the ground. As police approach Anders to make their arrest, his grandmother is seen falling to the ground on top of Anders.
- Anders’ lawyer Justin Moore stated Anders had been “getting pulled over and harassed” by the local police department. The incident involved a dozen officers who swarmed his granmother’s home “as if this was a responce to a violent offense”.
- Anders’ lawyer also stated: “As Tye laid on the ground compliant, yet scared, his 90 -year-old grandmother came out to deescalate this high stress situation by praying for her grandson and the officers. That also didn’t work. As the officers approached, they ended up assaulting her and knocking a 90-year-old woman to the ground.”
- Unfortunately, Anders grandmother passed out moments after being knocked to the ground and was taken to the hospital over fears she had a stroke or another serious complication.
- The Midland Police department said in a statment that officers directed Anders to exit the vehicle but that he initially refused to cooperate. “Upon exiting the vehicle, officers advised the subject to walk toward them to be detianed, the subject then stopped and laid on the ground” the police told an Odessa, Texas television station.
- Officers arrested Anders on an evading arrest charge and he was later released on bond.
The Midland District Attorney Laura Nodolf said in a statement that her office was reviewing evidence the police submitted, “including dashcam and bodycam videos, once that is complete we will evaluate if this case will be presented to a grand jury. Any officer misconduct will be thoroughly investigated.
