Marine Sentenced For Threatening To Assassinate Trump

A former US infantryman and Marine has been sentenced to 18 months in a Texas federal prison after he threatened to kill President Donald Trump in a series of online posts.

What We Know:

  • Mickael Gedlu, 36, pleaded guilty last Friday via teleconference with Chief U.S District Judge Barba M.G. Lynn.
  • After serving his time in a Texas federal prison, he will then be on three years of supervised release.
  • According to the State Department, Gedlu explicitly stated his desire to kill the commander-in chief on numerous occasions.
  • Gedlu posted on social media between December 18 and June 19 and those posts were filled with threats of violence.
  • He openly posted on Youtube, “I am waiting for Trump to visit Dallas before I attempt to assassinate him.”
  • He also described on his Facebook how he had been waiting for Trump to die. “For 20 straight months now, now openly and public, I have been calling for President Trump’s death.”

His father said Gedlu is disabled and mentally confused. He has been admitted to a hospital a number of times because of unspecified mental health issues.
