99-Year-Old Georgia Woman Survives COVID-19

99-Year-Old Woman, Maude Burke, is the oldest person to survive the COVID-19 infection.

  • Maude Burke received a special goodbye when she was discharged after her 17-day battle with COVID-19.
  • Doctors, nurses, and other hospital staffers lined the corridor and cheered for Burke as she was wheeled out of the hospital WSB-TV reported Monday.
  • Albany, Georgia native, Maude Burke, is the oldest COVID-19 postive patient to be discharged from Phoebe Putney Health system.
  • The hospital said Burke is just a few months away from her 100th birthday.
  • “Her strength and determination are amazing, and we wish her well as she continues to recover,” the hospital said on their Facebook page. The video has been viewed more than 117,000 times.
  • This case is so inspiring because the CDC reports that adults aged 65 and older are at greater risk of developing serious complications and account for a staggering eight out of ten deaths reported in the United States.

Burke is said to be at home resting peacfully with her family. The hospital posted the video hoping to inspire others who are batteling the virus or living in fear of it affecting them and their families.
