On Tuesday, Civil Rights icon Rep. John Lewis endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday, the day of the Wisconsin primary.
What We Know:
- Lewis is the latest top Democratic official to throw his support behind Biden.
- Biden is currently leading in delegates against Sen. Bernie Sanders.
- Wisconsin is one of the few states that did not postpone its primary amid the coronavirus pandemic.
- Lewis has called Biden, “A friend, a man of courage, a man of conscience, and a promising candidate to do whatever he can to support his candidacy.”
- On Monday evening, Lewis stated that we need Biden more now than ever before. He continued to say, “He will be a great president. He will lead our country to a great place. He would inspire another next generation to stand up, speak up, and speak out. To be brave, to be bold, and that’s why I am committed to supporting him,” Lewis said, calling Biden a “dear friend.”
- At his recent Democratic debate, Biden pledged to select a woman as his vice presidential running mate, and said last week he will formally announce a committee to begin the vetting process for potential candidates later this month, advised Yahoo.
- The only concern Lewis is facing is despite this pandemic crisis going on now, he hopes people will go out to the polls and vote. Lewis stated, “We have to vote, If we fail to vote, we don’t count.”
