Rebecca Ramsey Dies: Visual Effects Producer On ‘Watchmen’, ‘Spider-Man 3’ & More Was 53

Rebecca Ramsey was a producer, a board member of the Visual Effects Society, and a longtime member of the Producer Guild.

What We Know:

  • According to Ramsey’s longtime friend Jenny McShane, Ramsey passed on March 7 from complications that resulted from a fall in her home.
  • At the time of her death, Ramsey was working on a Warner Bros Film called Clouds as a visual effects director. It is directed by Jane The Virgin star Justin Baldoni and was slated to be released in 2021.
  • Her career spans a quarter-century which includes films like Life of Pi, Spider-Man 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. During her career, she also worked at Stargate Studios, Base Fx, Gradient Effects, Look Effects, Modern Videofilm, Hatch, Kaleidoscope Films, RGA/LA and Todd AO Digital.
  • On March 24, Visual Effects Supervisor Jim Owens, for This Is Us, shared a photo from the season 4 finale as a tribute.
  • Just last week, the cast of the Watchmen, where Ramsey worked as a visual effects producer, shared a PSA on how to stay safe during the pandemic. It featured the show’s stars Regina King and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and it also included series regulars Jovan Adepo, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Dustin Kyle Ingram, Sara Vickers, Tom Mison, and Andrew Howard. The video outlines how washing your hands for 20 seconds can protect you and your family from catching and spreading coronavirus. Howard who plays Red Scarce in the HBO hit show said, “Wash your filthy hands, and stay the fuck home. It’s simple.”
  • The hit show was not greenlighted for a season two because the creator Damon Lindelof, felt content with his work and didn’t feel the show needed a second season. However, he wasn’t against HBO hiring another creator if the network chose to move forward with the show.

Ramsey is survived by her husband, Jeff Weber, mother Judith Ramsey, stepfather Jerry Kitz, and brother Michael Fujita Ramsey. No memorial plans have been announced.
