Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation donated $5 million to the response efforts against the coronavirus.
What We Know:
- In a statement the foundation said, “The money will support on-the-ground partners working on the frontline’s of disaster response especially those focused on protecting and serving marginalized communities, helping the most vulnerable in the United States, the Caribbean and in Africa prepare for what is to come.”
- In 2012, Rhianna founded the nonprofit organization in honor of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. It aims to support and fund groundbreaking and effective education, health, and emergency response programs around the world.
- The funding will be channeled thought Direct Relief, Partners In Health, Feeding America, the International Rescue Committee, the World Health Organizations COVID-91 Solidarity Response Fund and others.
- Her donations will aid organizations that help support communities with protective gear, medical supplies and equipment, as well as funding food banks across the world.
Other celebrities including Justin Timberlake, Donatella Versace and NBA players have also donated funds to help schools, hospitals, and food banks overwhelmed by the pandemic.
