Danity Kane’s ‘D. Woods’ Stars As Assistant In New Show, ‘Stuck With You’

Danity Kane dominated the charts in the early 2000s before disbanding in 2009 because of tension between management and members. Since the split, Wanita “D. Woods” Woddgett has made a name for herself respectively both on and off the stage.

What We Know:

  • Woods plays a character named Mora on UMC’s new show called Stuck With You. Woods stars as a love-struck assistant to a famous woman who is pretending that her dysfunctional relationship is ideal.
  • Although Woods is known for singing, this isn’t her first time acting. Woods said, “I started acting as a very young child. I started my first professional theater experience when I was 5-years-old.” She also said the craft has taught her a lot, “it is a little bit like therapy. It is a little bit like it’s exercising my own demons and being able to say things that maybe I don’t get to say in real life or to people, especially when it comes to these dudes.”
  • Woods said that acting and singing for her go hand in hand. “It spills over into my music because I’m able to bring the emotion into the songs, you know, is definitely able to spill into my choreography and my dance. Because you don’t want to just be up there doing steps like a robot. You want people to still feel the emotion. All of that.”
  • Although Woods’ latest job is on-screen, the former singer is still interested in music. She told theGrio “WoodGrane Entertainment is my label. My entity. Shout out all the indies out there. It is the independent movement.”
  • She emphasized that having creative control was her main priority this time around. Woods said, “I really did that just because I didn’t want to get caught up in the matrix of letting someone else to turn my destiny in my purpose in what I have to say.”

Woods told the Grio she is comfortable being positioned in the driver’s seat of her career. “I’m influenced by so many different facets of the arts and entertainment. So what better way to take control of that and not have to like funnel it into one little peehole and just start my own company and do it my own way.”
