Death of Anitra Gunn, Fort Valley State Student, Ruled Homicide

Georgia college student Anitra Gunn was last seen on Valentine’s Day. Gunn was seen just outside Fort Valley, Georgia near Macon.

What We Know:

• The 23-year-old was found dead on February 18, in a wooded area of Crawford County, Georgia. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the victim’s boyfriend Demarcus Little was arrested on unrelated charges early last week.
• Little was charged with criminal damage to property after tires were found slashed and windows were smashed on Gunn’s car in front of her apartment.
• Todd Crosby of the GBI didn’t elaborate on what was found at the news conference that was held last Friday but did say, “there was some development this afternoon” which led to a malice murder charge shortly after.
• Last Thursday, Gunn’s death was ruled as a homicide, her cause of death was not released and officials say that toxicology reports are pending.
• Last Wednesday, Gunn’s father Christopher Gunn wrote on Facebook, “there are no words to describe this hurt”.
• Anitra Gunn was very involved in Fort Valley State. She was a senior visual and performing arts major. She also sang in both university choirs. Paul Jones, the university president, said in a statement, “on behalf of the entire campus community, we wish to convey our most heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and other loved ones…Her loss is a tragedy for all those who loved Anitra, for Fort Valley State University and our entire community.”

Fort Valley State held  a candlelight vigil on Monday night.
