College Linebacker Charged With Assault for Bodyslamming A Cop

An Eastern Kentucky University football player faces assault charges after he bodyslammed an Ohio Police officer during his arrest.

What We Know:

  • On Monday, cops say they received a call at a Grove City, Ohio business from a woman who said an Eastern Kentucky linebacker, Michael Harris, was acting erratic.
  • Things took a horrific turn when the 6’3″, 245-pound linebacker picked up a police officer. Harris put the officer over his shoulders and dropped him to the ground. The cop avoided serious injuries and was able to help restrain Harris.
  • Court records state that Harris was intoxicated and was not familiar with where he was.
  • Harris’ aggressiveness persisted. Before being hauled to jail, he was sedated by medical personnel.
  • After the arrest, Harris’ vehicle was searched by cops. They found pills and a digital scale. In a statement, Harris mentioned that he was not taking any illicit drugs or medication.
  • Harris now has a felony charge for assault and three misdemeanor charges for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and, obstructing officials’ business.
  • Harris was a top recruit who signed with Auburn right after high school. This month, he officially transferred to EKU. EKU has suspended Michael Harris after this arrest.
