HS Principal Suspended After Suggesting Kobe Bryant Deserved to Die

Posted on February 7, 2020 by Alldon Thompson, Staff Writer

A high school principal apologized after sharing a Facebook post; the post suggested Kobe Bryant deserved to die in the helicopter crash.

What We Know:

  • In brief, Camas High School principal, Liza Sejkora, wrote in a Facebook post: “Not gonna lie. Seems to me that karma caught up with a rapist today.”
  • The screenshotted post circulated amongst students, and later ABC-affiliate station KATU got hold of the screenshot. Sejkora did not deny writing the post, exposing those were her words.
  • Sejkora commented in connection to a claim back in 2003, where Bryant faced rape charges. The 19-year old woman accused Bryant of rape, and later the charges were dropped.
  • According to KATU, Sejkora said, “I have some personal experiences that generated the visceral reaction.” Furthermore, she added, “This was a  situation where I didn’t think before I posted, and I’m terribly regretful about that.”
  • The principal also shared that she wants to keep her job. Sejkora deleted her Facebook and Twitter, ushering that the post and other posts were mistakes.
  • She said, “I’m embarrassed that I made such a poor decision and let down my students. We communicated with our community last night, my teachers yesterday, and students today.” Sejkora added, “I’m hopeful that my regret will garner me some trust moving forward.”
  • The principal apologized across the school’s intercom system; but, students are weary whether or not the regretful-principal is genuine. So, to assure her regret, Sejkora will also address the student body in an assembly.

One student, a Kobe Bryant fan, insisted that the regretful-principal should resign. “Honestly, I think she should step down, personally,” he said.
