Boxer Gervonta Davis went under fire the following morning after a video turned up online of him physically assaulting a woman believed to be his daughter’s mother, at a celebrity basketball game in Miami on Saturday.
What We Know:
- A brief video, no longer than 15 seconds, was shared online by Twitter user @mr_luares. Davis was clearly seen confronting a seated woman by grabbing her by the collar and lifting her off the seat at what appears to be a heated argument. Two men at the game immediately head toward the pair and a third man next to them swiftly moves away. They are quickly escorted out of the arena.

- Davis later posted on his Instagram story denying any harm to the young woman. The boxer has since deleted all posts and stories from that personal account. “I never once hit her,” he posted. “Yea, I was aggressive and told her to come on … that’s the mother of my child I would never hurt her.”
- In the past year, an arrest warrant was issued for Davis by a magistrate on account of a misdemeanor assault charge in Fairfax, VA. The Baltimore Sun reported he was scheduled to appear in court last May, but a settlement was reached with the other party and charges were dropped prior to the court date.
- His history of charges doesn’t stop there. He also faced previous assault charges for allegedly punching a childhood friend in the head back in 2017 and disorderly conducted for a street fight in 2018. All charges were dropped.
- Davis’ adviser, Lorin Chvotkin, said he had no comment over the weekend. A spokesman for Showtime, the network that has broadcast Davis’ championship fights, also gave no comment Monday.
Davis now lives and trains in the Atlanta area. He won the World Boxing Association lightweight title with a 12th-round knockout of Yuriorkis Gamboa on Dec. 29 in Atlanta. His career record is currently 23-0 with 22 knockouts.
