Patrick Stewart invited Whoopi Goldberg to reprise her role as Guinan in the latest Star Trek series during his appearance on The View this past Wednesday. Needless to say, things got emotional.
What We Know:
- Stewart himself is returning as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Picard, which is set to air on Thursday January 23rd on CBS. It was his way of formally inviting Goldberg to join the series for its second season, on behalf of his colleagues and the show’s executive producer, Alex Kurtzman.
- Goldberg worked alongside Stewart in her recurring role as Guinan in Star Trek: The Next Generation, which aired from 1987 to 1994. The co-host reiterated Goldberg’s earlier statement that working on Star Trek was “one of the greatest experiences from the beginning to the end”.
- Co-host Joy Behar later went on to jokingly ask Stewart if Goldberg would have to lose her hairstyle of blonde twists for the show. Stewart made it very clear in regards to her appearance stating “she can do whatever the hell she wants”.
- CBS revealed in 2018 that the new series is going to be available on CBS All Access. It will tell the story of the next chapter in Picard’s life. During that time, Stewart tweeted he was “excited and invigorated” to once again take on the role of Picard.
This marks the second time Goldberg is reprising an iconic role in the past few months.
