Kanye West is set to headline Awaken 2020, an Evangelical prayer rally alongside known anti-LGBTQ+ supporters.
What We Know:
- As Kanye West continues on his journey of spiritual awakening, he has gained support from mega-church pastors such as Joel Osteen and Adam Tyson. Now that he will be performing at Awaken 2020 alongside people who are not in favor of the LGBTQ+ community, we are sure this move will stir up further controversy.
- Awaken 2020 will be held at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona on January 18, 2020. A number of the other speakers attending the event are notable anti-LGBTQ+ leaders, such as pastor and avid Trump supporter Guillermo Maldonado who will also be speaking at the event.
- Other anti-LGBTQ+ attendees include Cindy Jacobs, co-founder of prayer-based organization Generals International, and Lou Engle, co-founder of prayer movement The Call who also has a history of opposing LGBTQ+ rights.
- Though West has spoken in support of LGBTQ+ people in the past, in recent years he has shown to take on more conservative Evangelistic views.
West has yet to address his controversial decisions.
