Tyler Perry Reveals Work Ethic: “I Have No Writers Room. I Write It All”, Faces Backlash

Tyler Perry receives backlash for boasting in a recent post on Twitter.

What We Know:

  • In the video on Twitter, the mega Producer revealed that he does not have a writer’s room. It is a common practice in the Television industry for major shows to have a team of writers; but, Perry has taken a different path by writing all of his content on his own.
  • Perry says, “So, I don’t know if you know this, but all shows on television have a writers room.” As he talks, the video shared on Instagram and Twitter flaunts an awe-inspiring pile of completed scripts.
  • “And most of the time, there are 10 people or 12 whatever that writes on these television shows.” Furthermore, he continued, “Well, I have no writers room. Nobody writes any of my work. I write it all. Why am I telling you this? I wrote all of these scripts by myself in 2019. What’s my point? Work Ethic!”
  • Consequently, followers were not thrilled by the recent video, stressing that there are incredible black writers, and opportunities should be available to them. @OfficialSampson comments: Your Work ethic is Great. But there are definitely a lot of fantastic black writers who could use the opportunity and paycheck to work in a writers room with and for you.

The Haves and the Have Nots returns Tuesdays at 9/8 on OWN. Perry’s new film, A Fall From Grace, premieres January 17 on Netflix.
