Texas Sheriff’s Deputy Arrested for Conducting Illegal Strip Searches on 6 Women in 11 Days

Floyd Berry, 49, was placed on administrative duty after he was accused of conducting several illegal strip searches over 11 days.

What We Know:

  • The Bexar County Sheriff’s Department took action after receiving a complaint from a woman who claimed Berry stopped her at a Shell gas station, took her to a secluded area and told her to remove her clothing so he could search her. Five other women have lodged similar complaints against Berry since.
  • One complaint, detailed in an affidavit, stated, “Victim 3 stated she could visually see that Deputy Floyd Berry was sexually aroused.” Another woman reported that she was forced to reveal her nipples to the officer.
  • The affidavit also states that surveillance footage of the gas station shows Berry making frequent traffic stops then leading women away from their vehicles.
  • On Dec. 7, the 18-year veteran officer was formally arrested and charged with three counts of official oppression. Fellow Sheriff, Javier Salazar told KENS5 that he does not believe these are isolated incidents. He stated, “I don’t think that someone that’s been on patrol for that long, all of a sudden started acting up, searching someone improperly, illegally. I think this is something that has been going on for some time.”
