When They See Us being snubbed by the Golden Globes was a shock to all in Hollywood, despite the praise and the Emmy award one of its main stars, Jharrel Jerome won earlier this year for Outstanding Lead Actor for a Limited Series or TV Movie.
What We Know:
- Many people took to social media to show their disappointment after the announcement.
- One of those people included actress Aurora Perrineau who played Tanya in the series. She expressed her frustration in Twitter post.
When they see us being snubbed by the Golden Globes is consistent with the way people can’t talk about our stories. It was “too hard to watch”,yet it is our reality. Proud of @ava and the Exonerated 5. Never stop telling our stories.Onward and upward !
Love to my WTSU fam 🖤— Aurora Perrineau (@AuroraPerrineau) December 9, 2019
- The drama directed by Ava DuVernay was one of many people of color projects or performances unrecognized by the Globes. Those other performances included Lupita Nyong’o for her role in US, Zendaya for Euphoria, and Regina King for Watchman.
- One fan page on Twitter said, what we are all thinking regarding the lack of color representation at the Golden Globes. “Zendaya, Regina, and Lupita all snubbed. When They See Us ignored all together. That right there tells me all I need to know about The Golden Globes…”
