The event will air on January 5 on NBC, and Ricky Gervais will return as host for the fifth time.
Netflix’s Marriage Story and The Irishman, were nominated for six and five awards, respectively. In the television categories, both The Crown and Unbelievable were nominated for four nominations each as well as HBO’s Chernobyl.
No women were nominated for the director’s category this year. A big shock to many, was seeing that Netflix’s groundbreaking and most talked about tv series When They See Us wasn’t nominated for a single award, although one of their lead actors took home an Emmy earlier this year. Another shocking fact about this years nominees it that, a lot of predominantly black leads in film and television roles also weren’t nominated. This is an interesting way to start off the award season.
