3 Students Die in Saugus High School Shooting

A 16-year-old girl and two 14-year-old boys are among the teens injured on Thursday at Saugus High School in California.

What We Know:

  • The shooting took place around 6:55am according to some officials. All of the injured victims were transported to the hospital and were in grave condition. The weapon was a .45 semi-automatic pistol that had no remaining bullets and it was recovered at the scene. All schools in the William S. Hart Union High School District were on lockdown till 1:40 p.m.
  • Nathaniel Berhow, one of the victims is believed to be the shooter. He is an Asian male student at the school whose 16th birthday was the day of the shooting. The suspect’s mother and girlfriend were at the police station. A warrant was given to search their house.
  • According to reports, Berhow randomly shot five students before turning the gun and shooting himself in the head. Berhow died from his head injury. Three of the five shooting victims are in stable condition. Unfortunately, the other two students did not survive their gunshot wounds.
  • Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean released a statement saying “I want every single family member to know we are with you, our heart is with you, and that’s all I can say as to this horrible thing.” Mike Pence and Donald Trump also came out to express their condolences to the families.

No motivation is known at this time and an investigation will start soon.
