Selena Gomez Releases Lose You To Love Me Weeks After Ex Justin Bieber’s Wedding

Tuesday night at midnight, Selena Gomez released her new single and the official video for “Lose You To Love Me”. The video was shot with an iPhone 11 pro and Gomez showed a range of emotions stemming from anger to joy throughout it.

What We Know:

  • Gomez said this song was inspired by many things that happened in her life since the release of her last album. In a statement she said that it was important to share music that shows the journey of heartbreak and perseverance. “I thought it was important to share the music, as I know many can relate to the fact that the road to self-discovery generally comes through the scars in one’s life.”
  • Although Gomez never directly said who was the inspiration behind the lyrics, most fans assumed it had something to do with a famous Canadian singer. In the chorus, she gives insight about a toxic relationship reportedly with her ex, Justin Bieber. “We’d always go into it blindly / I needed to lose you to find me / This dance it was killin’ me softly.”
  • In one verse, she opens up about the pain she felt knowing how quickly and publicly the “Sorry” singer moved on with his now-wife, model Hailey Bieber, just months after they broke up in March 2018. “In two months you replaced us like it was easy / Made me think I deserved it in the thick of healing.”
  • After the release of the single, Hailey Bieber received backlash for posting the screenshot of the song “I’ll Kill You” by Summer Walker feat Jhene Aiko to her Instagram story. This caused fans to speculate that she was responding to Gomez’s new song. The model addressed the accusations in a now-deleted comment on “Just Jared” Instagram page. She said “please stop with this nonsense… there is no ‘response…This is complete BS.’”
  • The goal behind Gomez’s new single is simple, she wanted people to feel a sense of hope and know that despite what is going on in your life you will come out stronger and a better version of yourself.

Over the past year, Gomez took to social media to post videos and photos of herself working on her album. This album will be a follow-up to her last solo album, Revival which debuted at 1 on the Billboard 200.
