Whoopi Goldberg to reprise ‘Sister Act’ Role in London After 27 Years

Comedian and actress Whoopie Goldberg is back in the habit.

What We Know:

  • Goldberg will reprise the role of Deloris Van Cartier from the original Sister Act franchise. The story follows Cartier, a singer, who witnesses a crime and has to relocate to a convent for her own protection.
  • She will play in Sister Act The Musical which will launch at London’s Eventim Apollo Theatre on July 29, 2020. There will only be 39 performances of the show. 

  • Jennifer Saunders is set to co-star in the production alongside Goldberg as Mother Superior. Bill Buckhurst is directing the show. Alan Menken will compose the music. He has previously done work for The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. And Alistair David is overseeing the choreography.

  • Speaking about the role, Goldberg stated, “The original Deloris is back, a little older, a little seasoned, but really still kind of out there”.
