A nine-year-old Illinois child is facing murder charges for allegedly killing five people including three babies in an April house fire.
What We Know:
- One Juvenile justice advocate is calling this, “Simply Shocking,” On Tuesday Woodford County State’s Attorney Greg Minger, filed charges against an unnamed child in connection to an April house fire in the Timberline Trailer Court in Goldfield, I11, According to Time.
- The Juvenile faces five counts of first-degree murder, two counts of arson, and one count of aggravated arson-which implies that the child was aware people were in the home when he or she started the fire.
- The child will be appointed an attorney and avoid a bench trial in front of a judge.
- If convicted, the child will face a maximum of five years of probation, but not past the age of 21. The child will not face jail time but will likely go through counseling and therapy.
- Woodford country coroner Tim Rusestman confirmed that the five victims of the house fire included Kathryn Murray, 69; Jason Wall, 34; Rose Alwood, 2; Daemeon Wall, 2; and Ariel Wall, 1. All of the victims died as a result of smoke inhalation and their deaths were all ruled homicides.
The first Juvenile court was established in 1899 in Illinois, which was designed to give children a second chance a life but when you are aware that you are causing bodily harm/death to someone there will be consequences that you will have to pay for later in life everyone don’t have the opportunity receive second chances.
