According to the Washinton Examiner, six elephants passed away while trying to escape an infamous Thailand waterfall.
What We Know:
- This was due to a baby elephant slipping over the waterfall in Khao Yai National Park. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation stated they were called onto that scene Saturday.
- Sadly three hours later, the 3-year-old’s body along with the five others was found. Two other elephants were trapped by a nearby cliff edge but were thankfully rescued and moved by the authorities.

- The waterfall is called Hell’s Fall and is named due to a similar incident that happened in 1992 when eight elephants passed after falling there.
Edwin Wiek, the founder of Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand, stated that the elephants rely on large herds for protection and food, making survival extremely difficult. He advised that for the elephants these deaths are “like losing half of your family”.
