Texas High School Football Player, Jordyn Hawkins, Paralyzed After Tackle During Game

Deandrea Wade, Jordyn Hawkins’ mother says Hawkins is in good spirits after his injury.

What We Know:

  • On September 12th, during a junior varsity game at Austin High School, Hawkins was tackled by a quarterback and didn’t get up.
  • Wade said in an interview at TIRR Memorial, a rehabilitation center in Texas Medical Center, that in just a blink of an eye, their lives were changed.
  • Wade also says that her son is in good spirits. He has a big smile on their face from all the love and support he’s received from everyone. Hawkins is paralyzed from shoulders down but has feelings in his arms and legs.
  • Thursday night, Hawkins recorded a video from his hospital bed, thanking everyone for their well wishes and support.

  • After being in the Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Hermann, Hawkins was moved to TIRR and is now in the gym for rehabilitation every day.
  • Hawkins’ mother is hopeful for the best. Although it may be hard, her faith never wavered.
  • “It’s difficult, but with my faith, I believe that God is going to bring us through,” Wade said. “God has already given us so many victories. Everyday. We have a victory every day, so that’s what I’m standing on. My belief in God.”

Wade is holding a prayer rally in the same field her son was injured weeks before. She is asking friends, family, and strangers to come out Friday from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. to Austin High School, 3434 Pheasant Creek Drive in Sugar Land.
